Let Belt Help You Publish Your Book!

Publishing your own book can be incredibly rewarding—both personally and professionally. Authors can maximize creative control of their work, and institutions or businesses can create a marker of prestige and a potential new revenue stream. At Belt, we offer a variety of boutique publishing services for those looking to make and sell their own books. Our basic service includes:
  • Design, Typesetting, & Listing: We will make your book look professional with an individually designed cover and interior, then coordinate the necessary procedures—assigning an ISBN, creating a barcode, listing the title in databases, etc.—to get your book ready for sale. Rates for this service start at $1,250.
Additionally, we offer editorial services to make your book the best it can be. These services include:
    • Developmental Editing: Our editors can help shape your manuscript into a great book through line-by-line editing for structure, style, and tone. For a 200-page manuscript (roughly 40,000 words), rates typically range from $1,000 to $1,500.
    • Copyediting: Make sure your sentences are clear and your grammar conforms to the style guide of your choice (AP, Chicago, MLA). For a 200-page manuscript, rates typically range from $500 to $750.
  • Proofreading: Once the manuscript is typeset, we can check line-by-line for typos, spelling errors, and misplace punctuation. This service typically costs about $300 for a 200-page book.

  • All of the work is performed by members of Belt Publishing's staff. You can choose any or all of the above, depending on your needs.

Printing costs are not included, but we can recommend the best printing service to fit your needs. For most projects, we highly recommend using a print-on-demand service that specializes in self-publishing. This means that when a customer places an order, the service will print and ship a copy, charging you a set rate only for the books sold. This saves you on up front costs, and allows your book to appear in Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and independent bookstore databases. Examples include IngramSpark, Lulu, and Amazon CreateSpace. All you need to do is upload the files we supply, and these companies do the rest!

Or, if you plan to distribute the book yourself, we can coordinate the production for you—including arranging for printing with one of the companies we use for our own titles—for an additional fee. The cost of printing varies greatly depending on the size, page count, and format of your book. But it's important to keep in mind economies of scale: 50 copies of a 100-page book might cost the same as 5,000 copies of a 200-page book.

Belt does not take any portion of the proceeds for these books; all the sales are yours to keep.

To get started, send us a brief description of your project, and we'll get back to you with a detailed estimate.
