More love for Chicago neighborhoods (and books about them!)

The Chicago Neighborhood Guidebook was reviewed Sept. 4 on Chicago Detours. Author Alex Bean singles selections on Bridgeport, Wicker Park, and the South Loop for special praise and writes of the book as a whole that it is “a stirring, entertaining and informative collection of works … [Brings] to vivid life the diverse people and wildly divergent experiences that populate Chicago. The Chicago Neighborhood Guidebook is a symphony of the city – unharmonious, often tragic, sometimes ridiculous, yet always home."

Meanwhile, editor Martha Bayne and contributor Vitaliy Vladimirov, who wrote about Chicago's Uptown neighborhood for the book, appeared on the WGN radio show After Hours With Rick Kogan on Sunday, Sept. 1. Kogan is a charmer, and a big fan. Of the book he says (among many nice things), “You would be a fool not to have this on your bookshelf; it will introduce you to Chicago today … An essential and tremendously enjoyable book.” You can listen in to the whole segment here; it's about 40 minutes long.
