Recommended Titles

No, but for real, I'll first shout out Aaron Foley's How to Live in Detroit Without Being a Jackass and the Detroit Neighborhood Guidebook, both of which are substantive contributions to the chronicling of the city's extraordinary stories. Likewise with Selina Mahmood's A Pandemic in Residence: Essays from a Detroit Hospital, a powerfully insightful examination of a historic time. Also, Happy Anyway: A Flint Anthology, edited by Scott Atkinson, features a tremendous swath of creative and insightful voices from Flint—plus, it has the best title of all city anthologies.
